Safety. Support. Healing.
These are the key elements of my practice. As a healing professional, my work is informed by my training but also by my lived experience, which creates a seamless, holistic approach to your own therapeutic process. Through our sessions, my wish is to guide you on your unique path to healing.
I specialize in recovery from trauma, anxiety and depression, and help people navigate through grief.
During therapeutic sessions I facilitate healing experiences through the gentle processing of trauma or stress, using ta blend of modalities. I have been trained as a Cognitive/Behavioural Therapist, Trauma Therapist, and Satir Transformational Therapist. Today I also employ the tools of Somatic Experiencing, Narrative and Solution Focused Therapy, Nature Therapy, and Mindfulness. I also explore dreams as an entry point in my counselling sessions. While many of the more traditional tools are incredibly effective, there are also more esoteric practices that can prove useful on the path to healing, such as healing ceremonies, active dreaming, breath work, Sound and Reiki Healing.
On A Personal Note
I believe that nature is a powerful healer and it is where I draw a lot of my energy. When not practicing, I can be found hiking barefoot, swimming in the ocean, foraging for wild herbs, and introducing my children to the beauty and mystery of the natural world that surrounds us on this wild and wet coastline.
My ancestors are from Siberia and the Ukraine. They were farmers, artists, teachers, and healers and I have always felt their endurance, creativity, and wisdom in me. As a child, I had a strong relationship with the harsh yet beautiful land of Siberia and Altai mountains! My mother and great grandmother taught me about healing properties of the wild plants that were part of my surroundings. My father taught me about human resilience and the importance of believing in people's strengths.
I first began working with trauma while researching at the UBC Behavioural Psychology Laboratory, where I was investigating the post-traumatic effects on the personal growth of genocide survivors, astronauts, and women working in the harsh environment of Antarctica.
After my initial work at UBC I went on to complete my MA in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria. Today, in addition to my private practice, I am closely involved with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and I work as a group facilitator for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer at Ovarian Cancer Canada. I'm also a counselling provider with the Crime Victim Assistance Program, and my services are often covered by ICBC for those who have been in a car accident.
