Sleep Disturbance
Insomnia, sleep disturbance, or oversleeping may be symptoms of poor sleep hygiene, but these may also be symptoms of Overwhelm or Traumatic Stress. Each time we are not able to return to a relaxed ‘normal’ state our nervous system becomes more hypersensitive or unresponsive and we are more likely to be affected by events, actions or experiences that previously may not have had an impact. When working with people who experience sleep disturbance, we wither focus on exploring sleep hygiene and adjusting sleep habits or we work with the nervous system with the help of Somatic Experiencing. Somatic Experiencing works directly with the neurophysiology of the body to help regulate the nervous system and its effects on the endocrine and immune systems, these symptoms can gradually be reduced.
Through Somatic Experiencing Therapy we will be able to identify and safely release the emotional issues that prevent you from easily falling into a deep and restorative sleep, or those that might disrupt otherwise successful sleep.

What is Somatic Experiencing?
SE addresses our primary nervous system functioning. It resolves stuck symptoms of past adverse events that remain in non-cognitive regions of the brain, such as; relational, developmental or shock trauma.
Through moment-to-moment awareness of sensations in your body, SE aims to gently re-establish the natural flow of your life energy, supporting the safe release of symptoms and energy from the nervous system. In SE sessions, we release the past experiences of stress and trauma and restore your body, heart, and mind into a relaxed wholeness.
